Unique and Dynamic Artistry
Art and Historic Downtown Salisbury
Salisbury has a rich history of art that continues to evolve to this day. Downtown Salisbury, Inc. and the Salisbury Community Appearance Commission want to celebrate the city's rich and diverse history with residents and visitors. The downtown Salisbury History and Art Trail is a wonderful way to showcase all the beautiful artistry this town has to offer. They dream of bringing the history to the streets, where anyone can experience the people, events and stories of Salisbury's past. The history and art trail is a natural fit to share Salisbury's story and to create a cultural amenity in its historic downtown setting. The best place to start the journey is at the Rowan County Visitors Information Center at 204 E. Innes Street, where you may gather more information on the city and the History and Art Trail. However, the Trail is also designed to be picked up at any point along the way. Enjoy the journey, and please return as we continue to forge our Trail. |

"Ghost Signs"
If you look closely around downtown Salisbury you will find many wonderful gems and pleasant surprises. One delightful example is the vintage painted advertisements placed around town. One can find great enjoyment in hunting for all the ghost signs littered around on the walls of the many historic buildings in the downtown area. Some advertisements are faded and very difficult to spot. Others are full of color and vibrant as if they were painted yesterday. Suprisingly some of them may have been painted yesterday! Restoration of some of these signs are in progress and a few more will be fully painted, bright, and vibrant again by the summer of 2012.
Public Art: Sculptures
Every year the Salisbury Public Art Committee showcases a selection of unique and beautiful sculptures around the downtown Salisbury area and on the campus of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. The sculptures are carefully selected from an open application process and the works represent a wide range of sculptural style and materials. Each sculpture is then placed in a site to best compliment the piece and its setting. The Salisbury Sculpture Show is a perfect way to get around town and look at all the beautiful artwork Salisbury has to offer.
