Downtown Salisbury has a lot going on. We have three performing arts venues with a variety of openings, Friday Nights Out, Pops at the Post, Blues & Jazz Festival, Brick Street Live and live music from all around.
Three Performing Arts Venues
The Maroney Theatre, home of the Piedmont Players Theatre, is a beautiful historic theater built in 1906 on Innes Street. The 360+ seat theater’s renowned stage has been performed on by such famous names as Sarah Bernhardt, Lillian Russell, John Philip Sousa, William Howard Taft, Cary Nation, and the New York Symphony Orchestra. The Piedmont Players Theater hosts great local productions of classic and new musicals, plays, and other great performances year round!
The Norvell Children’s Theater is the newest addition to the Piedmont Players family. The 251 seat theater hosts all of the Piedmont Player’s imaginative youth productions. Every play is produced and performed solely by the local youth! The Theater also has plans to host movies and other events in the future.
The Black Box Theatre is Salisbury’s “off-Broadway” Theater. At the Black Box you can find poetry readings, comedy nights, plays, musicals, live music, and more!
Friday Nights Out, Pops at the Post, Blues & Jazz Festival, Brick Street Live:
Salisbury has plenty of live and interactive performing arts and activities around the streets of downtown. Downtown Salisbury’s own Friday Nights Out is a completely free, monthly, family oriented, all afternoon event that is sure to entertain! Shops stay open late and the downtown area is alive with plenty of fun activities and live entertainment around downtown. Pops at the Post is a yearly community event featuring performances by the Salisbury Symphony. Because of generous sponsor and donors who have contributed to Pops at the Post, it is a completely free event! The Blues & Jazz Festival is also a yearly event held in Downtown Salisbury and is an ode to all that is great in Jazz and Blues music. The festival showcases many great musicians, wonderful storytellers and local bands. Whether Jazz and Blues is a passion of yours or not, you are guaranteed a breathtaking show! Brick Street Live is yet another exciting event which features a variety popular music bands that are sure to bring exceptional entertainment to downtown Salisbury every year. The event, centered on Fisher Street’s block known as “Brick Street” is a monthly event that has had a variety of artists, including Blue Monday, Chairmen of the Board, Too Much Sylvia, The Embers, Darrell Harwood, Atlantic Groove Band, and many more!
